Wrapping up our week with William Kamkwamba

From the 2nd – 7th December, The Scotland Malawi Partnership were honored to host leading Malawian innovator and ‘The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’, William Kamkwamba.

The purpose of his visit to Scotland was to promote the ongoing relationship between Scotland and Malawi, and share his journey in order to inspire our younger generation.

William hit the ground running at the SMP Renewable Energy Forum, where he was the keynote speaker at the round table meeting, attended by social enterprise and sustainable development experts from across Scotland. The purpose was to engage Scottish businesses working in the renewable energy sector, and share their knowledge and expertise in the hope of overcoming challenges and identifying opportunities.

William also attended Scottish Parliament to meet with International Development Minister, Ben Macpherson MSP, and senior representatives of the Scottish Parliament and Scotland’s political parties to share his story as a sustainable entrepreneur and promote the importance of Scotland’s longstanding links with Malawi.

On December 5^th, twelve shortlisted schools from across Scotland came together for the inaugural School Partnership Awards. Here, they shared their own Malawian school partnership stories, focusing on the theme of ‘sustainability’. William presented the awards and provided a talk on his own sustainable venture, the Moving Windmills Project.
