Links benefitting both Scotland and Malawi come in all shapes and sizes. There are currently 17 key areas of partnership which our members are actively involved with in Malawi, stretching from Karonga in the North, to Nsanje in the South. Each area of partnership is unique, with members working together and learning from each other.
The SMP usually publishes a Strategic Plan every three years, to coincide with the triennial core funding grant we receive.
The Scotland Malawi Partnership works across three core areas: Youth, Primary & Secondary and Further and Higher Education.
Our activity is in the civic sphere: supporting charities, churches and community groups with their people-to-people links with Malawi.
Business, trade, investment and tourism are an important part of the relationship between Scotland and Malawi, and hence are a key part of the SMP’s work.
The SMP is keen to help coordinate and support Malawi’s involvement at COP26.
Scotland and Malawi have a unique 160-year unique friendship that offers a strong platform for cooperation in the area of governance strengthening.
