Malawi's first home trained vets graduate

On 12th December 2019, Malawi's first, fully home-trained vets graduated from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR).
Now, the twelve new vets bring the total up to nineteen, and they plan to continue their important work within Malawi.
Prior to graduating, the Scotland Malawi Partnership was honored to host the twelve students during their first visit to Scotland, where the group participated in a Q&A at the Scottish Parliament’s Cross-Party Group on 11th September 2019. They also participated in field trips and workshops with the University of Edinburgh and The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.
The success of this veterinary school, which was started in October 2015, is partly down to the hard work of Professor Melaku of LUANAR, SMP member, Dr Adam Tjolle of Inglis Vets, Martyn Edelsten, The University of Edinburgh, the Lilongwe Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (LSPCA), and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).
