How to pay your annual member subscription

Around 90% of the value you receive through your SMP membership is subsidised by our core funding from the Scottish Government, but we cannot overstate the importance of the membership fee income as it allows us to be responsive to our members’ needs, ensure our independence from government and safeguard our long-term sustainability.

If you are an Individual or Organisational member, please be sure to pay your annual subscription if you have not already done so. This will cover the period of 1st April 2024 - 31st March 2025.

Subscription rates are as follows:

  • Individual - £20 per annum
  • Organisation (annual income under £20k) - £40 per annum
  • Organisation (annual income £20k-£100k) - £75 per annum
  • Organisation (annual income £100k-£500k) - £120 per annum
  • Organisation (annual income £500k-£1m) - £180 per annum
  • Organisation (annual income £1m-£5m) - £260 per annum
  • Organisation (annual income over £5m) - £350 per annum

There are four payment methods available, full details of which can be found below.

If you are unsure whether or not you have paid or have any other questions about your subscription, please email

Direct Debit (the easiest way to pay)

GoCardless is the ideal way to pay as, once set up, payment will be taken automatically every year, with no further action required on your part. To get set up, simply click the relevant link below:

You will be asked to complete a Direct Debit mandate, allowing us to debit your account with the appropriate amount. This payment will be deducted after three full working days have passed. The mandate remains in force throughout your period of membership and we will automatically renew your subscription on the 1st of April every year. We will advise you one month in advance of the membership renewal amount, with a further reminder three working days before we take the payment. You will have the protection of the DD Guarantee against payments made in error or fraudulently claimed.

If you have already paid, you can still set up your GoCardless account so this is ready for the next subscription period. Simply click the relevant link below (DO NOT CLICK any of the links above if you have already paid or you will be charged twice).
