Renewables Forum
Sharing practical experiences of deploying Renewable Energy in Malawi
From a small solar energy system on a school building to a community minigrid, no matter the scale, successfully deploying renewable energy systems in Malawi requires access to the right technology and appropriate expertise.
The SMP REF focused on this challenge and extended an open invitation to share experiences of RE project delivery.
In addition to our regular forum contributors who shared insights on renewables supply chains and the role of contractors in a partnership project, we were joined by Mr Soustain Chigalu, the President of the Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi (REIAMA). Mr Chigalu who provided an overview of REIAMA, its members, and the benefits of engaging with REIAMA when initiating a renewables project in Malawi. Mr Chigalu is a fully qualified electrical engineer, renewables expert and runs his own company specialising in solar power and rural electrification.
Chaired by Prof. Stuart Galloway, Professor of Compact Power Systems and Vice Dean: Knowledge Exchange, Faculty of Engineering, The University of Strathclyde. We also heard from guests speakers, Leticia Siyaya & Robert Hanna, African Sun Energy (Blantyre Research Facility). Richard Bennet, CEO, Bhubesi Pride Foundation. Dr Chrispin Gogoda, Test and Training Centre for Renewable Energy Technologies (TCRET) Mzuzu University.
