Reader in Sociology at University of Glasgow, research on LGBTIQ human rights in the Commonwealth including African states. From 2019 working on DFID- funded project Strong in Diversity, Bold on Inclusion, supporting LGBT+ groups in five African cities - Nairobi, Lagos, Maputo, Lusaka, Dakar - in consortium led by HIVOS with partners including Coalition of African Lesbians, African Men for Sexual Health and Rights, and Kaleidoscope Trust, as well as School of Advanced Study (University of London) and University of Pretoria. In relation to Malawi I have collaborated at an event speaking at the Scottish Parliament with Alan Msosa (University of York), with whom I keep in touch; I have also co-edited a volume Human Rights, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in the Commonwealth: Struggles for Decriminalisation and Change (2013) that includes a chapter on Malawi by Undule Mwakasungula (open access online).
