S4L Scotland send funds over to Bemvu who purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer as well as fruit and indigenous trees. The beneficiaries provide all the labour. At harvest time the farmers give part of their harvest to the Bemvu Management Committee and retain the rest thus benefiting from the increased yield by using a better quality seed. The part that is returned to the Management Committee -a potion is diverted to be used in the School Feeding Programme the balance is kept in store and sold when the price is at its highest and the proceeds used to purchase more seed and fertilizer for the following growing season - hence the sustainability.
SeedforLife.FeedforLifeSCIO is a Scottish registered charity working with a Community in Ntcheu District of Malawi. The aims of the project are to establish a sustainable, self help feeding programme to ensure that the Community can work their way out of food poverty. Last year we assisted 84 farmers to grow a total of 65 extra tonnes of Maize which allowed us to feed up to 1400 primary school children through out term time in 2019-2020 this will increase to 120 farmers.
We also support 25 pupils through their secondary Education. The receipt of a Scottish Government Grant over the next three years has enabled SeedforLife to plan for the future and assist in achieving or goals.
