Got some spare time in lockdown? Take our #ChichewaChallenge !

Muli Bwanji?!

The Scotland Malawi Partnership is excited to share the details of our second #ChichewaChallenge - challenging our Members to use these socially-distanced months in lockdown to learn Chichewa.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or feel you need to brush up your Chichewa, we’re keen to help Members improve their language skills while travel to Malawi isn’t possible due to Covid-19.

By popular request, as part of our continuing #ChichewaChallenge, we are delighted to announce details of our autumn Chichewa Language classes. Please click here to apply.

We have twenty places available for a six-part online course running from the 10th September to the 22nd October. We anticipate that places will go quickly so we encourage members to book asap to avoid disappointment.

The course will take place on Zoom, with 6 x 45-minute sessions, each starting at 7pm, on the following dates:

  • 10th September
  • 17th September
  • 24th September
  • 1st October
  • 8th October
  • [Note - no lesson on 15th October, due to school holidays]
  • 22nd October

These courses are perfect for those visiting Malawi (when able to do so) as they include not just Chichewa training but also really useful and insightful information and discussions around Malawian culture. They are led by the brilliant Enock Bamusi and Sarah Niven – a great Malawi-Scotland team in action!

Those taking part in the course will be given copies of a fantastic new 35-page companion booklet for the course. It covers Malawi culture, Chichewa pronunciation, grammar, vocab and useful phrases.

This first six-part course is being offered at the special introductory rate of just £60 minimum donation, and just £30 minimum donation for SMP Members. To get the Chichewa Challenge started, we are delighted to start at this heavily subsidized rate – so sign up quickly! We will provide payment instructions in the confirmation email.

And if you’re signing up, don’t forget to shout about it on social media, encouraging others to join you using #ChichewaChallenge, tagging @ScotlandMalawi.

If you have any questions about the training, or if you already speak some Chichewa and are interested in an intermediary course, please contact craig(at)scotland-malawipartnership.org.
