Cultural Celebration Day

An afternoon, 'book festival style', event which members of the public can drop in to. All those involved in international development are warmly invited to attend but the Scottish Government also encourages those new to the area to come and learn more.

The week of the 2-7th November will mark ten years since the Scottish Government signed the formal Cooperation Agreement with the Government of Malawi.

The Scottish Government have a series of events to mark the anniversary, many of which SMP members and the public are warmly invited to attend.

Saturday 7th November, 14.00 – 18.00: Cultural Celebration Day

Grassmarket Community Project, Edinburgh (EH1 2QA)

An afternoon, “book festival style”, event which members of the public can drop in to. All those involved in international development are warmly invited to attend but the Scottish Government also encourages those new to the area to come and learn more. It will be a fun and interactive afternoon with fantastic speakers, great music and amazing food. Marking Scotland’s success as a Fair Trade Nation, the afternoon will include stalls promoting fair trade goods available across Scotland.

Speakers to include:

  • Mark Beaumont, cyclist, BBC presenter and adventurer, talking about his Africa Solo cycling trip (1hr). Suggested donation of £10 at the door. To book a place CLICK HERE.
  • Lizelle Bisschoff (founder of Africa in Motion Film Festival) and Foysol Choudhury (founder of the MELA), talking about setting up and running two of Scotland’s best loved multi-cultural festivals (30 Mins). To book a place CLICK HERE.
  • Romain Pizzi,Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons recognised specialist in Zoo & Wildlife Medicine, to talk about working with animals in Africa & Asia (including key-hole surgery on orangutans!).To book a place CLICK HERE.
