The BIG Dinner 2!

10 November 2021

SMP member 500 miles supports the development and delivery of prosthetic and orthotic services in Malawi. In July this year, they handed over their Mzuzu clinic to Malawi’s Ministry of Health. They are currently raising funds to be able to do the same with their busy Lilongwe clinic - and you can help!

They need to raise £262,500. That’s equal to a new leg for 1,500 people who can’t afford to pay for one themselves.

Here's some info from 500 miles...

"...our final fundraiser is called the BIG dinner 2 because we know people enjoyed the original BIG dinner in 2015, and with the loosening of Coronavirus restrictions, we thought you might enjoy hosting a BIG dinner 2 event for family or friends, your neighbours or maybe with your club or community organisation. There is no set format, no set date for your fundraiser. All you need is some good company and great food, and to ask your guests to make a donation to 500 miles instead of bringing the usual chocolates and flowers. But if you’re not ready for hosting or it’s just not your thing, please enjoy our collection of recipe videos from some people you may have heard of and any donation to help us reach our target would be most welcome. £18 buys a shoe raise which will help a young child; £55 pays for a new foot so someone can walk – and an average device, like a below knee prosthesis, costs £175 – hence our target being 1,500 of them!""

Our CEO, David Hope-Jones shares his hearty winter stew recipe in support of The BIG Dinner 2.

“...I’ve seen first hand what they do in Malawi and I can’t endorse them enough, if you’re going to do one brilliant thing today, donate to 500 miles.”

SMP Chair, Prof Heather Cubie shares her favourite shortbread recipe (baking with her grand-children!) in support of The BIG Dinner 2.
