Strong All-Party Support for Malawi
22 March 2024
All of the main political parties in Westminster continue to show strong support for Malawi.
Malawi’s High Commissioner H.E. Dr Thomas Bisika (above centre) was Guest of Honour at the AGM of the Malawi All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) held in Westminster Hall on Tuesday. Dr Bisika shared the Government of Malawi’s priorities, his hopes for the Mission in the UK and interest in collaboration with this Group. The APPG was also delighted to welcome Deputy High Commissioner, Justice Agnes Patemba and First Secretary, Ms Duwa Kandoje. The APPG elected the following Office Bearers:
- Chair & Registered Contact – Patrick Grady MP (SNP) – (above right)
- Honorary President – Lord (Jack) McConnell (Lab) – (below right)
- Vice-Chair – David Mundell MP (Con)
- Vice-Chair – Christine Jardine MP (Lib Dem) – (below right beside Lord McConnell)
Present at the AGM were H.E. Dr Thomas Bisika, Wendy Chamberlain MP, Patrick Grady MP, Christine Jardine MP, Lord McConnell, Sir Gary Streeter MP, Alison Thewliss MP (below left), Neil Wilcock (Westminster Foundation for Democracy), Suraj Samant (representing Mark Logan MP), Deputy High Commissioner, Justice Agnes Patemba, First Secretary, Ms Duwa Kandoje, Stuart Brown (SMP CEO).
The APPG Chair & Secretariat also had the pleasure of introducing Dr Bisika to Shadow Minister (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs) Lyn Brown MP (pictured above left in Portcullis House) who discussed Malawi’s key priorities with the High Commissioner. The SMP is politically neutral and, greatly valuing all-party support for our friends in Malawi, provides the Secretariat for the APPG. The SMP is grateful to all of the APPG’s members for their time and support and in particular to Chair, Patrick Grady for his leadership, effort, and commitment.
