Showcase your Malawi Link in SMP Photographic Exhibition!
09 May 2025

A picture being ‘worth a thousand words’, the SMP is excited to announce plans to showcase and celebrate SMP members’ dignified partnerships with Malawi, in a touring photographic exhibition.
The exhibition aims to paint a picture of Scotland’s engagement with Malawi as a nation, as well as spotlighting the involvement of particular communities in different parts of Scotland.
Entitled "Anthu Pamodzi" (people together): Snapshots of Scotland and Malawi building a better world, the exhibition’s body of work will create a picture of people-to-people engagement.
Part of the SMP’s 20th birthday celebrations and hosted with local Malawi champions in communities throughout Scotland, the images will help share the stories of impactful partnerships which have mutual respect and friendship at their heart.
SMP Members and members of the public in local communities from all walks of life will be welcomed to informal events to view the photographs and chat about Malawi projects in their neighbourhood, raising awareness of Malawi links locally and Scotland-wide.
Help host an exhibition
Already there is interest in the exhibition being held in the Scottish Borders, West of Scotland, Stirlingshire, Edinburgh, Aberdeenshire and Orkney. Our hope will be to hold an exhibition at some point that is accessible to you!
If you would like to help host an exhibition in your community, please let us know by e-mailing: membership@scotland-malawipartnershiop.org
Call for photographs now open
All SMP members and their Malawi partners are now invited to select up to three evocative images which you and your Malawi partners agree, best communicate the essence of your partnership.
The title: Anthu Pamodzi: Snapshots of Scotland and Malawi building a better world also sets the theme of the exhibition. This is intentionally broad, seeking to enable the diverse spectrum of SMP members to interpret and respond in any way that is meaningful to their type and size of partnership. Some images may illustrate the challenges to which the partnership is working to respond. We know that SMP members will, as a matter of course, ensure that all photographs respect the dignity of anyone pictured.
The deadline for submitting all images & accompanying info is: Friday 27 June 2025
This is not a technical photographic competition, but rather a chance to share favourite images which depict what is at the heart of your partnership and what you and your partners would want others to understand about it.
Members are invited to provide a title for their photograph/s, a brief description of what is depicted in the photo/s and a short paragraph on their organisation, including contacts for more information on your partnership.
The SMP will arrange for and meet the printing and presentation costs of the images and exhibition events. A catalogue bringing together all of the images featured over the 2-year run will also be produced.
We look forward to some really vibrant events around Scotland, helping to share members’ stories, in pictures!
