THE SMP kicked off the new school year with not one but two Schools’ Forums held at Knightswood Secondary School in Glasgow and the City Chambers in Edinburgh!

The forums were a fantastic opportunity for education practitioners to come together to share and gather experience of working in school partnerships and Learning for Sustainability.

During the forums, we had some great discussion about organisations in the area that could offer support, and worked in groups to look at matters related to school partnerships such as the Sustainable Development Goals and Learning for Sustainability.

We were pleased to welcome teachers from schools across the Central Belt with a wealth and range of experience of school partnerships, from just starting out to years of working with partners in Malawi.

Craig Shields from Knightswood Secondary School chaired the Glasgow forum and offered some insight into the school partnership including the highlights and challenges that they’ve faced.

In Edinburgh, Amanda Burton from the Flora Stevenson Primary School gave an inspiring account of her partnership working with Mpeni Primary School in Malawi.

We also heard from Diana Ellis from WOSDEC and Silvia Sabino Hunt from Scotdec about the Connecting Classrooms through Global Learning programme and how it can offer financial support to schools in partnerships as well as the CLPL opportunities on offer from the Development Education Centres in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

We finished the forum by spending some time networking over Malawian drinks and snacks!
