Malawi’s President, His Excellency Professor Peter Arthur Mutharika, has accepted the invitation to be the Scotland Malawi Partnership’s Honorary Co-Patron. HRH The Princess Royal agreed in 2025 to renew her patronage of the SMP, having supported the Partnership since its inception.

President Mutharika last week assented to resume the position, which he had held when in office 2014 – 2020. In a Press Release issued by Malawi’s Chief Secretary, Dr Justin Saidi, The President accepted the role and reaffirmed his “commitment to strengthen further the fraternal bonds of friendship that exist between the people of Malawi and Scotland.”

The President kindly wrote to the SMP and asked Malawi’s Hon Minister of Gender, Children, Disability & Social Welfare, Hon Mary Navicha, MP to share the news in person with the SMP’s membership, when delivering the keynote address at an SMP event on Monday 2 March.

The SMP is grateful to His Excellency The President and to Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal for their continued support for Scotland and Malawi’s people-to-people partnerships.
