Malawi Visa issue resolved for British Passport Holders
10 March 2026
Following action by the Government of Malawi, the issue of travellers (including UK passport-holders) who did not have a visa in advance being denied passage to Malawi has been resolved.
Following quite extensive collaboration on this issue, the SMP has had confirmation from Edinburgh Airport that the IATA computer system now correctly reflects Malawi’s wish and regulation that many travellers, including those from the UK, can obtain a visa upon arrival in Malawi as well as through its e-portal. If any SMP members experience anything to the contrary, please let us know.
The SMP gratefully acknowledges the action of: Malawi’s Director General of Immigration, Commissioner Chipao; High Commissioner to the UK, HE Dr Bisika; HE Ambassador Mpingganjira; Malawi's Deputy High Commissioner Justice Patemba; the UK's Deputy High Commissioner Ben Nicholson; PS Simwaka; the Malawi High Commission’s Ruth Katsulukuta; Pasqually Zulu; Karin Ulmer; James Thomson of Edinburgh Airport; and Kelly White of the Malawi Travel Consortium.
