On the 20th March 2017 Priti Patel, Secretary of State for International Development, announced a new Small Charities Challenge Fund for charities with less than £250,000 income working internationally.

Grants of up to £50,000 each will be made available, with £4 million in total to distribute over the next 2 years.

The fund will be focussed on supporting small development and humanitarian organisations in the UK working across the world, including in Malawi.

Working in partnership with the Charity Commission, the funds will provide training to small and medium sized organisations working in international development to build their skills and capabilities and increase their effectiveness, and raise awareness and support for development work amongst the UK public.

Recognising there are proportionately more small organisations in Scotland involved in international development work, and the valuable contribution they make in addressing poverty, we warmly welcome and support this announcement, and looking forward to working with DFID as the fund develops, and encourage our members to be involved.
