In constituencies from the Borders to the Northern Isles, schools, universities, church and community groups, professional bodies and charities - big and small - are having a transformative impact in the lives of individuals, families and communities in Malawi.

Interaction with Malawians from the country known as the Warm Heart of Africa, including members of the Malawian diaspora living in Scotland, opens up the Worldview and perspectives of Scotland’s young people and constituents of all ages.

Each year more than 109,000 Scots are involved in a civic link with Malawi. Scottish charity, the Scotland Malawi Partnership (SMP) exists as a politically neutral and non-governmental membership network helping to support, connect and represent over 1,000 organisations and key individuals linked with Malawi across Scotland.

Giving a sense of the depth and breadth of activity across all walks of life in Scotland, this report preserves a record of past projects and gives a flavour of thriving contemporary Malawi relationships in each of Scotland’s 73 Holyrood constituencies and eight regions. The extend to which links are interwoven into the fabric of most strands of Scottish Society make the relationship rare and distinctive internationally.

Longstanding cross-party recognition of the importance to constituents of personal and community links with Malawi, across different walks of life in Scotland endures. The SMP is happy to connect its members with their local Parliamentarians and offer briefings to Parliamentarians of all parties. Every single constituency in Scotland has people-to-people Malawi partnerships and SMP members.
