SMP AGM 2018

Our SMP AGM 2018 was held on Saturday 6th October at the University of Glasgow.

Over 230 people with links to Malawi joined us at our 2018 AGM for a fun and inspiring afternoon celebrating all things Scotland-Malawi.

Taking place on Saturday 6th October at the University of Glasgow Student Union, this year our theme focused on ‘Our Shared Future: Youth Participation and Sustainability’.

Embracing the 2018 Year of Young People in Scotland, young people from both Scotland and Malawi were at the heart of discussions, and we were delighted to give our newly appointed Youth Committee the chance to share their views on what partnership means to them.

We welcomed a number of friends from Government and Parliament, including Ben Macpherson MSP, the new Scottish Government Minister for Europe, Migration and International Development, who spoke about his recent visit to Malawi and had a great Q&A session with the SMP Youth Committee.

There was also the chance to meet Mr Macpherson at our Malawi Markeplace, which had over 26 stalls on the day and was a hive of activity as people networked.

We had live Malawian music from the fantastic Davie Luhanga (aka Street Rat), Malawian coffee and snacks, and of course, served traditional Malawi Gin and Tonics at the end of the event!

We had lots of amazing prizes which we gave away throughout the day from our friends at: Blue Zebra Island Lodge, Makuzi Beach Lodge, Ngala Beach Lodge, Gave Haven, The Responsible Safari Company, Kumbali Country Lodge, Central African Wilderness Safaris, Kayak Africa, Bua River Lodge and Mzuzu Coffee.

We also announced the winners of our 2018 Member Award and heard from our partners at MaSP, with a special visit from Mphatso Sapangwa - MaSP’s Finance and Administration Officer.
