The Scotland Malawi Partnership is proud to co-host the Edinburgh leg of ActionAid’s ‘Make Tax Fair Everywhere’ European Speaker Tour.

Between April 20-24, ten tax activists from Africa and Latin America are coming to Europe for a very special inter-rail tour, visiting 10 countries and speaking to thousands about why stopping tax dodging in developing countries is so important.

Every year, unfair international tax rules let companies dodge billions of pounds of tax in developing countries. Some of the poorest countries in the world are being denied funds that could pay for essential services like schools and hospitals.

At these events in April you’ll hear about the impact of these tax rules on some of the poorest countries in the world: from Malawi to Kenya, Zambia and Nigeria. And you’ll find out how you can help to make tax fair, everywhere.

Our free Edinburgh Event on the 22nd April will include Malawian music (and gin!), and we will hear from Gertrude Chirwa, a tax activist from Malawi, and Cecilia Mulenga, a Zambian activist. We are pleased to also welcome Roger Mullin MP.

It should be a fun and informative Friday afternoon. Do join us. To book a place, please email info(at)scotland-malawipartnership.org.

The Scotland Malawi Partnership has been supporting the ActionAid campaign to have the colonial era UK-Malawi tax treaty updated, allowing Malawi to retain more tax revenue. With the support of the Scotland Malawi Partnership, an amazing 95% of Scottish MPs have now supported the campaign.

You can show your support by signing our petition.

We have made great progress with this campaign, with both the UK and Malawi Governments committing to urgently updating the treaty, but it’s still vital that we continue to raise awareness on this important issue, pushing to make tax fair everywhere.
