The Scottish Government announced its Malawi Development Programme 2018-2023 call for applications on 3rd November. In anticipation of this announcement we used this forum to support networking, sharing and collaboration between those potentially interested in developing an application.
We were delighted to welcome 35 members and interested individuals to the meeting at the Edinburgh City Chambers, including two remote participants. The meeting was divided into three main sections (Agenda).
We used the latest technology to put Malawian input front and centre of our meeting. In advance of the day, our sister network the Malawi Scotland Partnership asked six key stakeholders to talk about health priorities from their perspective. These videos can be viewed below and a one-page summary downloaded here >>
In addition, these stakeholders were available via WhatsApp at the time of the meeting; questions from the group in Edinburgh were sent across to Malawi and the answers compiled and shared at the end of the meeting.
The compiled questions and answers are available here >>
All potential applicants were also encouraged to familiarise themselves with these two key Malawian government policy documents: the Malawi Health Sector Strategic Plan II and the Malawi National Community Health Strategy.
A panel of previously SG-funded health projects fed in their experience and learning to help inform new applications. Discussions were focused around three key areas: applications; grant management and reporting; and project sustainability. We were grateful to all the participants for their honest and practical advice.
Sharing of developing plans and ideas
The final part of the meeting was a space, for those that choose to, to share information about developing or aspiring ideas for new or extended work.
