COVID-19 Zoom Meeting 8 - September 3rd

We were delighted to be joined by Scottish Government Minister for Europe and International Development, Ms Jenny Gilruth MSP who spoke of her interest in understanding the challenges of COVID-19 and described the Scottish Government’s approach in its Programme for Development which was published on Monday as being “rooted in a partnership approach”, emphasising that “working collaboratively is key”.  Dr John Phuka, Co-Chair of Malawi’s COVID-19 Presidential Taskforce gave a broadly based and wide-ranging presentation, fielding questions on a broad spectrum of topics including preparations for schools returning, testing, support for and communication with rural areas and the conditions that would be required for a lifting of international travel restrictions to Malawi.  Over 80 participants from across Scotland and Malawi, including members of MaSP participated in the meeting also hearing from: the SMP’s David-Hope Jones, Dr Antonia Ho, MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research, Natasha Mwenda of Water Aid Malawi, Ian Dunn, SCIAF, SMP Faith Group Leader Eve Hartswood and Dr Jenni Barr of the Dunblane Likhubula Partnership.
