Carrying passports in Malawi

We have had a couple of incidents in recent months where members have been stopped by Police while in Malawi and asked for proof they have an in-date visa. This is relatively rare and we have flagged the issue with the FCO.

We have had a couple of incidents in recent months where members have been stopped by Police while in Malawi and asked for proof they have an in-date visa. This is relatively rare and we have flagged the issue with the FCO. We encourage members to either carry their passport with them while in Malawi, or else carry a passport photocopy which includes both the picture page and the relevant Malawi visa.
30-day tourist visas can be easily bought on arrival and can be extended while in Malawi. All reports from members suggest the visa-issuing on arrival into Malawi continues to be relatively unproblematic. In most cases payment can be made by card as well as cash.
