Coffee was first introduced to Malawi by Dr. John Buchanan in the 1870s with a plant from the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh.
Malawi Floods: Scotland-Malawi community recovery mini grants now available19 May 2015

Dr Mizeck Chagunda, of Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), Dumfries, has won the SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD in the Malawi Association UK's annual Malawi Achievers Awards Ceremony in Leicester for his work championing links with Malawi in the Dumfries area.
Scottish Government launches new International Framework3 Apr 2015
The Scottish Government has released its updated International Framework. The SMP was able to help feed into the final stages of the consultation for this framework and also submitted to a Scottish Parliament inquiry giving feedback on the 2012 framework.
Ian Hudghton MEP raises Malawi sugar cane issue in EU26 Mar 2015
On the 9th March the SMP wrote to Scotland’s six MEPs raising concerns about forthcoming changes to the EU sugar cane subsidies which Malawian small-holder sugarcane farmer Charles Chavi raised as a point of concern when speaking at an SMP Fairtrade Fortnight lunch.
