Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group

A Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group was held on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 6pm.

Event Details:

Date: Wednesday 19 February 2020

Time: 6 pm – 7.30 pm

Location: Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh, EH99 1SP.

About the event:

This meeting of the Scottish Parliament's Malawi Cross Party Group, supported by the Scotland Malawi Partnership, focused on education and community engagement projects and partnerships with Malawi.

We heard from two excellent case study presenters:

  • Link Community Development International Malawi Country Director, Harold Kuombola and International Programme Manager, Kate Sykes
    • A charity that envisages a world where every child in sub-Saharan Africa has access to a quality basic education. Link works directly with government staff, district education officers, communities and schools by providing support and training for more effective teaching, improved school management and increased community engagement.
  • Classrooms for Malawi CEO, Amy Blake
    • A network of volunteer groups based in Scotland, Classrooms for Malawi undertake a comprehensive building programme working with volunteers, schools, businesses, community groups, local authorities and other charities to facilitate work in Malawi.

Cross Party Group meetings are free to attend and open to all MSPs and members of the public. They are a great way to learn more about Scotland’s links with Malawi, share information about their own activities, network, and meet interested MSPs.
