SMP's first School Partnership Awards - presented by 'the boy who harnessed the wind' William Kamkwamba

The SMP is very pleased to announce the launch of our first ever School Partnership Awards - and delighted to welcome special guest William Kamkwamba.

The SMP was delighted to welcome all the winners and entrants of our first ever School Partnership Awards on Thursday, December 5th at Edinburgh's City Chambers – hosted by special guest real-life 'Boy Who Harnessed The Wind' William Kamkwamba!

The School Partnership Awards, kindly supported by the Year of Young People National Lottery fund, Orbis Expeditions and the David Livingstone Birthplace Project, aimed to celebrate the variety of school partnerships with Malawi across Scotland.

The 5th December was International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development and we had a VERY special guest with us to present the awards!

Focusing on the theme of sustainability, our Youth Committee judges were looking for schools to tell us the story of their partnership – where it has come from and where it is going.

We asked schools to be as creative as they liked!

It be in any format as long as it was based around the theme of sustainability and we encouraged schools to think about using the Partnership Principles as a way of reflecting on their partnership as well.

We encouraged groups to enter as a partnership, working with their partner school(s) in Malawi on their entry so that it truly reflected their story of working together.

Award winners received certificates shared with their partner schools in Malawi thanks to our colleagues at MaSP, as well as professional photos from the day with William Kamkwamba to display in school.

Here's our final list of winners:

  • Penicuik High School – Namadzi CDSS
