Malawi Scotland Partnership Annual General Meeting

A very successful Annual General Meeting of the Malawi Scotland Partnership – our sister organisation headquartered in Lilongwe – was held on Thursday, October 17
at the Bridge View Hotel, Lilongwe.

MaSP’s AGM 2019 was a brilliant opportunity to hear about the SMP’s sister organisation’s successful year and to find out more about what they have planned in the near future.

This year's AGM had the theme Achieving sustainable socio-economic development through partnerships and our Youth and Schools Officer Gemma Burnside attended, along with SMP chair Professor Heather Cubie.

Speakers included Edgar Bayani from Community Energy Malawi, Nicola Cogan from the Scottish Government and Heather Cubie also spoke for the SMP.

The MaSP team introduced a hint of Scottish culture to proceedings with kilts and Scotland-Malawi ties.

Guest of honour, Mr Peter Simbani from the Malawian Government’s Ministry of Finance, opened proceedings for the day, taking the opportunity to talk about the importance of aligning efforts within the partnership to the SDGs.

He also spoke about the need for transparency and accountability in all work undertaken by organisations working in Malawi.

Josephine Mpango as the Youth Ambassador for MaSP also launched a new initiative, the MaSP Youth Network which will offer an exciting opportunity for young people across Malawi to be meaningfully engaged at the governance level of MaSP’s operations.

Alongside the official agenda, the more than 100 attendees were also able to network whilst being treated to a performance by the Chance for Change Dancers and to hear more about the current Safeguarding work being undertaken by MaSP.
