Malawi Gala Night in Scotland 2017

A fantastic time was had by all at the 53rd Malawi Independence Day celebrations in Scotland!

A fantastic time was had by all at the 53rd Malawi Independence Day celebrations in Scotland. With more than 100 attending the Gala Dinner and Dance at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow, it was brilliant to see so many Malawians in Scotland, and Scots with a link to Malawi, coming together to celebrate. The event was also successful in raising funds for a project it is running assisting incarcerated mothers with children at two prisons in Malawi.

As the sun shone down on an unusually warm Scottish summer evening, guests were warmly welcomed by the committee of the Association of Malawian’s in Scotland (AMS). Dressed to the nines, everyone was excited to see live music from Lulu who had travelled all the way from Malawi for the event.

After welcome speeches from AMS Chairman, Yonah Matemba, Honorary Consul for Malawi in Scotland, Peter West, and SMP’s Members Services Manager, Kathy Wright, guests enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner and exciting raffle. Everyone was delighted to have SMP member Bob Kalin’s band, Artistic License, to warm up the dance floor. Lulu then took over the stage and wowed the crowds with his music – and of course his famous dance moves!

Many thanks to all who made Saturday’s event such a great success. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!
