Covid-19 in Scotland and Malawi, (Zoom Meeting 8)

The 8th in our series of Zoom meetings discussing Scotland and Malawi's reaction and response to Coronavirus.

The eighth in our series of meetings looking at the impact of Covid-19 on the Scotland-Malawi bilateral relationship was held on the 29th July.

The meeting included a detailed briefing from Dr Jane Mallewa, of the College of Medicine who highlighted some of the serious challenges currently faced in Malawi, including the lack of nurses, the lack hospital beds and the lack of testing kits. We then heard from Professor Mwaptsa Mipando, also of the College of Medicine, about the general Covid-10 outlook. Professor Wilson Mandala from MUST spoke on innovative developments, and Dr Heather Cubie from the University of Edinburgh gave an update on the Scottish Government funded cervical cancer screening in Malawi. Ms Lillian Nseukla spoke about a biogas fueled stove initiative, and Alexius Kamangila from Reprieve gave an update.
