Blantyre @150: Honouring a Shared History, Shaping a Shared Future

On 23 October 2026, Blantyre, Malawi marks the 150th anniversary of its founding. Join us for this special hybrid event as we reflect on the rich and complex history linking Scotland and Malawi, celebrate the people and communities who have shaped that relationship, and explore what a shared future might look like.

Hosted by the Scotland Malawi Partnership, in collaboration with the Society of Malawi, this event will bring together speakers from Malawi and Scotland to share historical perspectives, personal reflections and contemporary insights on the significance of Blantyre's 150th anniversary.

The programme will include contributions from Carl Bruessow, Eunice M'biya, Dave Clarke and Harvey Kwiyani.

The event will conclude with an open discussion, giving attendees the opportunity to share memories, reflections, questions and hopes for the future of Scotland-Malawi relations.
Attendance is free, but registration is required.

Whether joining from Malawi, Scotland or elsewhere in the world, we welcome everyone with an interest in Blantyre's history, heritage and future to take part in this unique anniversary event.
