Does CFM work in partnership with local NGO? 2. Does CFM work in the northern part of Malawi? 01:44:50 Mick James: Great to see this active collaboration 👏 01:45:01 Fraser Boyd - Dunblane BB: Dom, is that £2,500 figure inclusive of flights? 01:45:14 Dom - Orbis: Yes 01:45:19 Dezie Trigu: Yes we work in the Northern Region. For instance Mzimba North-Ekwendeni, Chihame in Nkhata BAY 01:46:43 Mick James: Thanks for that Dezi - the guys from Tafika are very happy with the school block in Ekwendeni :-) 01:47:39 Peter: Given concerns about the environmental impact of long haul flights, is off-setting the carbon footprint something which can be explored? 01:48:49 Fraser Boyd - Dunblane BB: Conscious that a lot of research from QMU focuses on need for teenagers to interact with peers their own age when visiting Malawi. Is Orbis working with STEKA on that? 01:49:15 The Scotland Malawi Partnership: James, do you encourage establishment of tree nursersies and woodlots around the schools that you are working with? 01:49:21 Dom - Orbis: Yes. STEKA is currently included in most of our programmes. 01:49:41 Jackie Couchman: Dom mentioned the work continuing once the students come home. What does that look like and how long is this run-off period? 01:49:54 Emma Wood: Hi Fraser - yes we have run dialogue groups for schools booking through Orbis and was in discussion with them in Malawi in October about doing more 01:50:12 Fraser Boyd - Dunblane BB: Thanks, Dom and Emma 01:50:58 Dezie Trigu: Reacted to "Thanks for that Dezi..." with ❤️ 01:51:27 Jackie Couchman: Thank you. 01:55:59 Emma Wood: In terms of having a longterm benefit on pupils, I think this quote from Sarah Niven of Gleniffer school in our evaluation of the Dialogue approach is interesting ' it was so nice to see our pupils so relaxed with each other during the Dialogues — in a place where it didn’t feel like a school trip and they could be the adults they were turning into. Being part of that environment allowed them to be the people they’d like to be and think ‘it’s OK to be me’. When they returned to Scotland, I feel that they were able to talk more to other pupils they wouldn’t normally talk to because they were part of a different social demographic (our school is very diverse). So, sitting in those groups helped them understand what being a global citizen means — that we shouldn’t isolate someone just because they don’t have the same trainers as us and if we could open up a dialogue with everyone the world would be a better place' 01:56:42 Mick James: Does anyone know how many Scottish schools have an active and ongoing relationship with schools in Malawi? 01:56:55 Jackie Couchman: Reacted to "In terms of having a..." with 👍 01:57:17 Dom - Orbis: Previous study conducted by Scot. Let's get in touch edo2ferano@gmail.com 02:06:04 Emma Wood: Oh good 02:08:04 Denis: Can anyone suggest how we might get finance for travel grants for a couple of Malawian teachers to come over to Scotland? 02:08:44 Lynne Robertson: Education Scotland continues to support international visits due to the benefits that young people get from such experiences. 02:09:08 Ian Mitchell: British Council might be one avenue. We had a project through BC with a travel budget but COVID killed that part of the project. 02:10:18 Fraser Boyd - Dunblane BB: McConnell Foundation might give some funding maybe. If you could partner with a Church of Scotland in your area, they might give some through Faithshare programme 02:10:33 Fraser Boyd - Dunblane BB: Tesco is now doing bag-packing again! :) 02:10:57 Denis: Thanks Fraser, Ian and Lynne! 02:12:54 sallyrae: We have been running School trips to Malawi for 10 years now.
