And it is great to see you I continuing to make use of some of our work products from PERFORM. On the subject of carbon—I agree there is a considerable potential to benefit the forestry sector, BUT there is also an high likelihood of the current and growing level of interest having an adverse impact on the forestry sector (e.g. land grabbing). Hopefully your knowledge and experience can help to improve communications on carbon and forests when you return! 01:28:38 Dorothea - Scotland Malawi Partnership: Feel free to post any questions you might have in the chat 01:31:38 Ramzy Kanaan’s iPhone (2): One note—on the carbon finance potential from forests…a few cautionary notes. While the Government has used the annual Forest carbon potential at $628M / year. The WB puts this estimate between $24M and $74M/ year. Our estimates (developed with local data) are even a bit more conservative (in terms of the high end). But regardless these estimates are GROSS not NET, and stakeholders, including Government have not fully grasped the need to invest to “change the baseline trajectory”. 01:32:28 Heather Cubie: Community forests as demonstrated through WESM is great for the environment. The lack of funding to growing is reminiscent of so many examples where funders prefer something tangible to something that requires on-going commitment. Do the local communities also benefit commercially e.g by the agroforestry opportunities suggested by Henry? 01:33:27 Gary Brough: Reacted to "Community forests as..." with 👍 01:36:55 The Scotland Malawi Partnership: Here's a link for Learning with grandma with Granny Valerie https://www.facebook.com/groups/547672425370949/?hoisted_section_header_type=recently_seen&multi_permalinks=2514600188678153 01:38:48 Pike Ng'oma- Malawi: good to see grandmaz still thinking and caring about nature..... this is so encouraging.......to youths 01:38:58 The Scotland Malawi Partnership: Link for WESM https://wesm.mw/about-wesm/ 01:40:04 prosper nkhoma: Grandma Valerie has inspired me alot 01:40:25 Christopher Manda: Chris Manda (Oxford, UK). Thank you for your insights. However, Lessons from the long term concessionaries like RAIPLY inform us that tree growing investment struggles to break-even in certain locations like Nanchidwa in Mulanje while registering positive paybacks in the Northern Malawi ie.Viphya and that has implications on viability of commercial plantations concept that we may wish to explore. 02:02:19 HORENCIO MPEKANSAMBO: Reacted to "Presentation by Henr..." with 👍 02:02:23 prosper nkhoma: Reacted to "Presentation by Henr..." with 👍 02:08:37 prosper nkhoma: Mr. Yamikani Makwinja has raised one the important point we're facing at Department of Forestry 02:12:51 prosper nkhoma: Professor Kadzuwa & WESM presentative would you plz share the presentations 02:13:36 Dorothea - Scotland Malawi Partnership: Replying to "Professor Kadzuwa & ..." all presentations as well as recording of meeting will be shared on our website in our 'events' section 02:14:08 Dorothea - Scotland Malawi Partnership: Replying to "Professor Kadzuwa & ..." https://www.scotland-malawipartnership.org/events/forestry-forum 02:15:35 Alina Pelka: YORGHAS Foundation: yorghas@yorghas.org Malawi: africaoffice@yorghas.org 02:15:47 prosper nkhoma: Replying to "Professor Kadzuwa & ..."
