Malawi Millennium Project on the Empty Plinth

University lecturer Mark Shephard will face a different kind of audience when he clambers on to the famous Trafalgar Square plinth in London. The Paisley man is among the people chosen to take part in a national project created by respected artist Antony Gormley which will see folk from across the UK step on to the empty fourth plinth for one hour, every hour, for 100 days.

Mark applied for the project with the aim of raising the profile of Strathclyde University’s Malawi Millennium Project.

He said: “I’ve always supported the Malawi Millennium Project, so this will be an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of its work and to gain more funds for it.”

“With one hour, I’ll have a minute and a half to depict each year of my life.
“I did plan to have signs depicting the places where I have lived and which have shaped me and that deserve a mention.

“Paisley will be the last 15 minutes because I’ve lived here for the last 10 years but I’ve also lived in London, Hull, Texas and Brighton.”

For more information on the One & Other project and to see Mark on the plinth when he makes his appearance on Saturday, August 1, visit the website at www.oneandother.co.uk
