Speaking at the COP21 global climate change conference in Paris on Monday, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon committed to doubling the Scottish Government’s innovative Climate Justice Fund.

The SMP applauds this commitment from the Scottish Government which will see a further £12 million over the next four years to tackle the impact of climate change in some of the world’s poorest communities.

This is additional to the existing International Development Fund, which includes the Malawi Development Programme.

The Scottish Government has to date funded £6 million of funding, across 11 projects, as part of its Climate Justice Fund: this has had a transformative impact for hundreds of thousands across some of the poorest and most vulnerable communities.

The majority of Climate Justice Fund grants have been awarded to work with Malawi, and Malawi will continue to be a strong focus for the additional £12 million.
